sounds like my HD is clicking every now and then but nothing is happening on the screen. If you did this, you have probably destroyed your entire backup and the easiest way to recover will be to erase the backup drive and start your backups over from scratch. This usually happens when you are managing files from external disks, but it can happen with any file on the drive.

Right click on an empty space within Trash window and select Empty Trash.
