However, I've learned that when a General Error occurs it is almost always related to a bad clip, or a bad render file, in your sequence. Unable to update computer drivers. went to get back to my edit, opened my project file and General error (41) popped up. when the video finishes I get a black screen until the audio finishes.

Copy the project in a external hard drive, save as another name, burn into a dvd....anything works. Other than that try taking the project to another FCP (same versin) and see if that works.
